Pink in Fall and Winter

Style Confessions: Pink in Fall and Winter

Can you wear pink in fall and winter?

Lately, I’ve been wondering if I could get away with wearing pink in fall and winter. Just to clarify, I am talking about pretty much all shades of pink. I have a few items of pink in my wardrobe and thought it would be a bit sad if I had to wait until the spring to wear them. But I did a bit of research and it looks like pink is an acceptable colour to wear in both the fall and winter months. The trick is knowing what to wear with it. Style your pink top, blazer, sweater or cardigan with other fall colours such as black or grey. Also, add “rougher” elements such as leather or wear it with a scarf and boots.

5 Rules for Winter Dressing

5 Rules for Winter Dressing

Ugh!! Old man winter is now here, so I thought I’d let you in on 5 rules for winter dressing. Winter is the toughest season, not only because it’s so blistering cold, but also it’s very challenging to dress stylishly and be warm. Over the years, I have started to hate (I don’t use this word often, but I need to in this context) dressing for winter and wearing layers upon layers of clothes. But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

Cashmere and Sequins

christmas spirit

Christmas is just a few days away and what better way to get into the Christmas spirit than wearing a green cashmere sweater (SO cozy and warm) and a sequin skirt! I love cashmere and sequins together because it has holiday written all over it. Assuming that you’ve read my Style Confessions blog post about Second-Hand Shopping, this sequin skirt is one of my best finds ever! I found it a few months ago in Goodwill for only $7! I know, I couldn’t believe my luck either. I was searching for a sequin skirt for about a year or so, but all I could find were ones for nearly $80 or more, which is way too much money, for me, to spend on a skirt. This sequin skirt is perfect for the winter because it is lined in a knitted fabric that keeps me extra warm, and it has an elasticized waist – great for when you’ve over-indulged at a Christmas dinner or holiday party.

The Cat Sweater

A cat's a cat and that's that

As you may or may not know, I absolutely LOVE cats, especially my cat Holly. I am someone who gravitates towards anything with a cat pattern, so when I saw this adorable cat sweater I had to have it! Leaving it in the store would have been a crime. When I wear this sweater it immediately cheers me up and keeps me surprisingly warm. It is quite thin and lightweight, but I don’t really need to wear a layer underneath it, which is great because sometimes, with too many layers, you can end up feeling like a stuffed Christmas turkey. Wearing it with this red pencil skirt makes it a festive outfit perfect for the holiday season!

Cozy Sweater

cozy sweater

There’s nothing more comforting and comfortable than wearing a cozy sweater in the winter! This sweater from Target is so soft and warm – I love it! This cozy sweater also works perfectly for layering with this denim shirt, which is something that is an absolute MUST in this frigid climate. I hope all of you Edmontonians were able to stay warm and layer up this past weekend. I couldn’t believe it was -35°C for practically four days straight (total nightmare). Anyways, let’s forget about that, and focus on this winter outfit. What I like about this outfit is that it is so simple and easy, and you can wear different necklaces and collared shirts to change the look. Patterned flats to add some interest are great for the indoors, but brown knee-high boots would work nicely with this outfit if venturing outdoors.

Winter Flowers

winter flowers

This is an outfit that I wear to work. Even though it’s winter, I still like to wear colour and fun prints. Don’t be afraid to punch up your outfits with bright colours during the winter! I did a little colour blocking with this fuchsia button down shirt and cobalt blazer, and to add some interest and an element of surprise I paired it with these flower print tights that I am absolutely, madly in love with. They are so warm and comfortable! Winter work outfits don’t have to be boring. Have fun with your wardrobe and experiment!
